St Mary's Church, Newick

Sally Scott produced three separate pieces for St Mary's, Newick from 1996 to 2000
Two with David Peace and one with Madeleine Dinkel
1996 Peace & Scott

A memorial window to Emma Sclater on the theme of Creation and her love of architecture.

There is colour in the lower half of the design fading out as it rises into the cosmic spiral which is the white of engraved and sandblasted glass.

The fallen column is an architectural symbol for death but here a real Acanthus plant in colour grows upwards with new life from the stone Acanthus decoration on the capital.

At the top “In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth” are the sun, the moon and the Dove for the Holy Spirit. The cosmic spiral links the two panels and contains the five Platonic solids, the Natural Geometry which relates to all things in man and nature.

The window was designed, sandblasted, engraved and painted by Sally Scott, lettering by David Peace
